Spiritual Battle

The Spiritual Battle During Sickness or Death

♱ Introduction

The devil, who is a liar from the beginning, also knows the tremendous value of each human soul. At the moment of death, he afflicts the dying person with the greatest of temptations to cause their eternal damnation. However, the devil is not permitted by God to force anyone to consent to anything against their will. Rather he seeks to tempt the dying person away from God, and away from the theological virtues of Faith, Hope and Love. He is most ruthless at the hour of death.

♱ Reflections of the Dying

The dying person must know that Christ died for him and that there is no other way he can be saved, but by the merit gained by the passion of Christ, for which he should give thanks to God.

The dying person must recognize that he has gravely offended God, and grieve because of it.

The dying person must forgive all those who have offended him, and heartfully ask forgiveness from those he has offended.

The dying person if possible must make restitution for things he has taken.

For Catholics, the dying person should rejoice that he will die in the Holy Catholic Faith.

If the dying person recovers, he must amend his ways and resolve to never sin again.

To combat the attacks of the enemy, the dying person should reflect deeply upon the Five Deeds of Christ on the Cross:

▪︎ Christ prayed.

▪︎ Christ wept.

▪︎ Christ cried out.

▪︎ Christ commended His spirit to the Father.
